(faith-word) In the historic council of Trent back in the sixteenth century, the Protestants insisted on the use of Bible and Bible only. The Catholic Church rejected. They believe that the authority of the bible is influenced by tradition whereby it (the church) transferred the Sabbath to Sunday. Dr. H.J. Holtzmann, in his book –canon and tradition, he narrated the drama at the council of trent.
“Finally…on the eighteenth of January 1562, all hesitation was set aside: the Archbishop of Reggio made a speech in which he openly declare that tradition stood above scripture. The authority of the church could therefore not be bound to the authority of the scriptures, because the church had change… the Sabbath into Sunday, not by the command f Christ, but by its own authority.”
On may 2 1988, Archbishop Robert R.J.M. Zaborowiski, the prime bishop, Province of north America wrote “We Catholics believe the church was wise in making Sunday the Sabbath day…No matter how protesters mock or scorn Catholicism, they still retain elements of things they simply could not rid themselves of that are essentially catholic in origin and foundation. Sunday is but one of these things…”
On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther said, “the true Christian in not the Rome, but to the prophets, the psalms and the gospels.” As Mrs. E.G. white wrote “As men then reject the institution which God has declare to be the sign of His authority, and honour in its stead that which Rome has chosen as the token of her supremacy, they will thereby accept the sign of allegiance to Rome- the mark of the beast.” G.C.P. 449 (1888, 1911). She continued;
The Sabbath will be the great test of loyalty, for it is the point of truth especially controverted. When the final test shall be brought to bear upon men, then the line of distinction will be drawn between those who serve God and those who serve Him not. While observance the of false Sabbath, in compliance with the law of the state, contrary to the fourth commandment, will be an avowal of allegiance to the power that is in opposition to God, the keeping of the true Sabbath, in obedience to God’s law, is an evidence of loyalty to the creator. While one class, by accepting the sign of submission to the earthly powers, receive the mark of the beast, the other choosing the token of allegiance to divine authority, receive the seal of God.” G.C., page 605 (1888, 1911).
And the Lord Jesus Christ said “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Matt. 5:17-19(KJV). In support, James the apostle wrote: “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” James 2:10 (KJV).
And now, what do we do? John the revelator in island of Patmos in his vision said “And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities Rev. 18:2-5 (KJV). “And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:” Rev.14:9-10 (KJV).
Then who shall escape? “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” Rev 14:12. (KJV). May God bestow upon you the fullness of His divine spirit as new lights unfold in the subsequence pages of this blog, that this blog may help you walk the path of the just which “ is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” Prov. 4:18. (KJV). “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”. John 8:32 (KJV).
For the willful ignorance of the law will not be termed by God as an exoneration thereof because He said “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.” Hosea 4:6 (KJV). May the holy spirit lead us to all the truth as we continue to read through this blog. Amen.
